PACAYA SAMIRIA PROGRAM 5D/4N

The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve (PSNR) is a protected area of Peru located in the Loreto Region, in the Peruvian Amazon. Covering an area of 2,080,000 hectares (20,800 km²), it is the largest National Reserve in Peru, the second-largest protected natural area in the country (after Alto Purús National Park), and the fourth-largest protected area in all of South America. It is also the most extensive protected floodable Amazon ecosystem (known as várzea) in South America, widely referred to as THE FOREST OF MIRRORS.

DAY 1: IQUITOS – NAUTA – CAMP

• Pick-up from the hotel or airport designated by the guest
• Transfer from Iquitos to Nauta (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes by road)
• Upon arrival in NAUTA, we take a river boat to our CAMP (approximately 4 hours)
• Arrival at the CAMP
• Lunch (according to scheduled time)
• Rest
• After the break, we will be ready for our first excursion
• Botanical walk: enter the jungle and learn about different plants and their healing properties (used by local residents and shamans).
• During the walk, we may have the chance to observe wildlife.
• Return to the CAMP after the hike
• Dinner
• Night walk or outing along the creek to search for caimans in their natural habitat.
• After dinner, our guide will be ready to share jungle stories—don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about Amazonian legends.
• Overnight
• End of Day 1 program

DAY 2: BIRDS – FISHING – WALK

 Very early, before breakfast, we take the boat to the river to admire the sunrise and then enjoy the songs of birds in their natural habitat
• Breakfast
• After breakfast, we will have the opportunity to practice traditional fishing, with the possibility of catching the fearsome piranha, a fish respected by the people of the Amazon
• Return to the CAMP
• Lunch
• After lunch, we head to the Yanayacu creek to continue exploring and search for the beloved mammal, the sloth
• Return and Dinner

DAY 3: WALK AND CEIBA TREE OBSERVATION

• Breakfast at the camp
• After breakfast, we head out on another walk in search of more wildlife in its natural habitat
• Lunch
• After lunch, we navigate for about 3 hours to explore different areas and search for primates and other animal species within the national reserve. On the return, we will try to spot the most iconic reptile of the reserve: the caiman
• Dinner and Overnight

DAY 4: PINK AND GRAY DOLPHINS

• After breakfast, we travel to a specific area to observe river dolphins, where you may also have the chance to swim with them (optional)
• Lunch
• After lunch, we head to a lagoon for a walk in search of hoatzins and fishing birds
• Dinner
• Amazonian storytelling by our local guide

DAY 5 Return to Iquitos

• Breakfast
• Early departure to observe Amazonian water lilies (Victoria Amazonica) in the Bello Horizonte community
• Lunch
• Departure to Nauta
